Fourth evacuation shelter opens in Macon

City officials are announcing the opening of a fourth shelter for storm evacuees after the other three shelters the city opened reached capacity.

The Macon City Auditorium opened at 10 p.m. on Friday, October 7th to accept people looking for shelter after evacuating their homes due to Hurricane Matthew.

East Macon Recreation Center, Hephzibah Children's Home, and North Macon Park were opened to accept evacuees but all reached capacity after taking in 461 people.

For people traveling with animals looking for shelter for their pets, temporary shelter is available at North Macon Park.
