GBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Sumter Co.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday in Sumter County, according to a GBI release.

It says Georgia State Patrol Trooper Alec Davis was trying to stop a 2008 Chrysler 300 at the intersection of Mayo and Oglethorpe Street in Americus.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Anthony Mables, led Davis on a chase.

During the chase, Mables crashed his Chrysler into the marked patrol vehicle several times, according to the release.

When Mables tried to leave his car, the two got into got into a ‘struggle’ and Davis fired hitting Mables.

Mables was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health and Davis was taken to Phoebe Sumter Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
