GEMHSA to use Guardian Centers as a staging site

Thursday afternoon, with the approach of Hurricane Matthew, the Guardian Centers (GC) in Perry received an urgent request from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMHSA), formerly known as GEMA, to support GA Task Forces 1 & 6 along with two additional Task Forces in case they are to be deployed in Florida.

Georgia will use the GC as their pre-deployment site for hurricane response into Florida. The teams will begin arriving tomorrow and be onsite for 2 days. If hurricane Matthew loops back into Florida next week, GEMHSA will likely need the Guardian Centers campus for rotations like Katrina. This would be the largest appointment since Katrina his New Orleans in 2005.

The Guardian Centers is a state-of-the-art campus designed to provide emergency responders with realistic training scenarios for natural and man-made disasters. All of the respective Georgia Task Force teams have trained at GC.
