The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority and the Georgia Department of Economic Development announced Monday that Graphic Packaging (GPI) plans on investing $136 million to modernize its Macon mill.
According to a press release, the investment will help keep more than 460 jobs in Bibb County.
Currently, the mill makes paperboard used in packaging for the food and beverage industry.
The investment will bring in state of the art technology to increase its production capabilities while improving the mill’s environmental profile.
“A number of factors influenced our decision, including the facility location; access to a diverse, educated and skilled local workforce; and our relationship with Macon – Bibb County and the State of Georgia,” said GPI CEO Michael Doss.
The news release says Georgia competed against other states to win the investment and keep jobs in the state.
This is a developing story.
