Gray mom speaks after son murdered

A Jones County mother wants to know why her son, Marquise Hardwick, was gunned down last month. This week, three men were charged in the killing.

“At 3:45 that morning when I had that knock on my door, my whole world got turned upside down,” Hardwick's mother Sherry Greene said.

Gray police officers showed up to tell her someone murdered her 24-year-old son at his apartment.

“I couldn't believe it, it’s kind of still hard to believe,” Greene said.

Cameron Myles Banks and Justerrious Shyheim Canty, both 19, are in Jones County jail charged with felony murder for shooting death of Hardwick. According to a news release from Gray police, they're still looking for another man, Jaqualan Desean Clark, 20, who is also wanted for felony murder.

Some of these young men are familiar to Greene.

“For these boys to do this, whatever was going on with them at the time, whether they were beefing with Marquise or whatever, they don’t understand the lives that they have affected by what they did,” Greene said.

She says Hardwick loved to help train his sister on the basketball court, and had high hoop goals himself.

“He either had a football or basketball  in his hand and his dream was to go NBA and play pro ball,” Greene said.

Hardwick had two children, and Greene says her grandchildren are suffering, too.

“He had his whole life ahead of him, and it’s just a senseless act, and I still want to know why,” Greene said.

Gray police are still looking for Jaqualan Desean Clark.
