Gunshots from Squirrel-hunting neighbor puts Bibb school on lockdown

A squirrel-hunting neighbor put a Bibb County school on lockdown Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 9:30 a.m. at the Heard Elementary School on Houston Road.

School spokeswoman Stephanie Hartley said someone reported hearing shots nearby and the school went on precautionary lockdown.

But campus police quickly found out the shooter was a neighbor trying to shoot a squirrel. She wasn't sure how long the lockdown lasted.

Georgia's squirrel season runs from August 15 through the end of February.
