Houston Habitat celebrates Women Build Week

A family of four in Warner Robins will soon have a new place to call home thanks to more than 40 volunteers that worked on building their house Saturday.

It was the kickoff event for Houston County's Habitat for Humanity National Women Build Week.

Eleven years ago, Lowe's helped launched Women Build Week to empower women to push for affordable housing and to shed a light on the challenges of homeownership.

Women are invited to contribute at least one day to help build housing in their communities, and on Saturday local country singer-songwriter Colby Dee came out to help.

"Being a part of this build today is such an honor. Seeing a picture over there of the mom and three kids that will be living in this house is so incredible. It's just an honor to be a part of this work and put a little bit of sweat and tears in here,” said Dee.

Saturday’s volunteers helped build the 54th house for Houston's Habitat for Humanity in its 25 years of working in the community.
