Houston County Schools announces delayed dismissal for solar eclipse

Fast facts about the 2017 eclipse

Houston County Schools announced Wednesday that it will delay dismissal of all schools on Monday, August 21.

A news release says the new dismissal times that day will be middle and high schools at 3:15 p.m. and elementary schools at 4:00 p.m.

The decision was made with the safety of students in mind because peak exposure time will be during standard dismissal time.

The release says each school will decide if activities will take place inside or outside and that resources have been provided for either scenario.

Principals will let parents know about their decision at a later time.
