Tropical Storm Irma: Central Ga. government closings list

Speaking during a news conference Sunday afternoon from City Hall, Macon-Bibb County EMA Director Spencer Hawkins said his office expects downed trees, power lines, flooding and power outages from Hurricane Irma.

The following offices have announced closures:

  • All Ga. state government offices closed Monday and Tuesday
  • Macon-Bibb County government offices will be closed Monday, including trash and recycling services, and transit.
  • City of Roberta offices closed Monday and may remain closed Tuesday.
  • Ocmulgee Indian Mounds closed Monday
  • All Houston County government offices closed Monday, this include garbage pick up.
  • State Court, Bibb County jurors - those summond Monday should report Wednesday
  • Robins AFB Non emergency essential personnel excused from work Monday.
  • United States Post Office Units within this 3-Digit ZIP Code range have suspended retail and delivery operations until Tuesday, September 12, 2017:

Based on Sunday afternoon weather updates, Hawkins said the storm projections have Irma entering Central Georgia at about 8 a.m. Monday with sustained tropical force winds of about 40 to 50 miles per hour.

At about 2 p.m., the sustained winds are projected to pick up to 55 to 60 miles per hour.

BREAKING: Gov. Nathan Deal on Sunday afternoon expanded his state of emergency to include the entire state of Georgia.

Ga. National Guard Adj. Gen. Joseph Jarrard announced a series of military evacuation, including moving the Robins AFB J-STARS to Tinker AFB in Oklahoma.
