Macon barber shot in head during robbery

A Macon barber is recovering after being shot in the head. Around 10 p.m. Tuesday night, Terrence Thompson was cutting a customer's hair at his shop on Mercer University Drive. According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, that's when two robbers in dark clothes entered and demanded money.

Thompson scuffled with one of the robbers who shot him in the head.

During the incident, Thompson's daughter and a customer was inside the shop.

Armond Denson, a barber in the same shop, says Thompson has worked there for about 3 months.

"For someone to think that it was just right to come in and steal when given what you've asked for and try to take a man's life is pretty low to me and I don't respect that at all," says Denson.

According to Denson, Thompson was known as the "late-night barber."

When asked if it was common for him to be there by himself, Denson said, "Yes, that's how Terry runs. It was never a problem."

Denson says incidents like shootings never happened at their shop before, and his colleagues are trying to figure out how and why this happened.

"They are just heartbroken over this situation, and we're all trying to find out who done this because it's someone around here," says Denson.

He says the store will no longer stay open late and will close at a specific time in the future.

"Protocol will change," says Denson. "We'll never leave the other alone to be in here by himself and leave them vulnerable again."

Thompson's condition upgraded from critical to stable Wednesday.
