Irma wiped out thousands of people's power leaving many vulnerable.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, Highland Hills Baptist Church was one of those as they were broken into while their power was out.
According to the incident report, a deputy responded to the church at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.
They found that someone used a fire extinguisher to break a glass door in the church's courtyard in order to enter the building.
Deputies say only one item was taken from the church -- a small safe that they believe contained a week's worth of offerings.
Pastor Jake Hall says even though they are dealing with this loss, they are counting their blessings for what they still have today.
“While moments like this give us pause and they cause us to wince that it's not going to affect the gratitude we have in our hearts for what we have here and it's not going to affect the way that we express generosity towards our neighbors around Highland Hills,” said Hill.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, the incident took place between 2 p.m. September 12 and 7:30 a.m. September 13.
This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with any information should call Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
