Macon church feeds the homeless

First Baptist Church helps feed the homeless

According to Georgia's Department of Community Affairs, in 2015 at least 13,000 people were homeless in Georgia. Anywhere from 200-500 of those being people right here in Macon.

First Baptist Church members say they wanted to find a way to give back and that's exactly what they did!

They prepared a huge lunch to feed over 200 homeless people saying they wanted to serve those people in need.

From greens to ham and dessert they had it all, and even some of the youngest church members wanted to lend a helping hand.

Kimberly Agee says they are also giving away beanies and other items to help keep the homeless a little warmer this holiday season.

"We have to start giving back. Nothing is going to be fixed if we don't continue to give back in some way. Last night I believe it dropped to about 37 degrees so we definitely want to give them an opportunity to sit down, rest, get some warmth and have a moment where they're not outside in this cold weather," Agee said.

Agee says they hope to host more events year around to help out the homeless in the community.

She says it's a blessing to be able put a smile on so many people's faces.
