Bibb deputies charged a man with shooting and killing his daughter and wounding his wife on Mother's Day in east Macon.

Deputy Clay Williams with the sheriff's office says it happened on Lake Shore Avenue around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

A news release says when 37-year-old Demetrice Bell got home, she and her dad began arguing. During the fight, Benny Bell got a gun. They struggled over it.

That's when 65-year-old Thelma Bell, his wife, tried to break up the fight and was shot in the stomach. Deputies say Benny shot Demetrice in the chest. She died at the scene.

Thelma Bell is listed in stable condition at the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

Deputies have charged Benny Bell with murder and aggravated assault.

Two teenagers were home sleeping at the time of the shooting, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, but they were not hurt.

Jones said Sunday's homicide makes it the 8th this year in Macon.
