Macon man fatally shot in the head during domestic dispute

(UPDATE 2:30 p.m.) A news release from the Bibb Sheriff's Office has identified Rutherford's uncle as 45-year-old Darnell Stephens.

The release says the two men got into a fight outside the house and then both went to get their guns.

Stephens was shot in the leg and Rutherford was shot in the head.

Stephens is in stable condition and is charged with aggravated assault. Other charges are pending.

A Macon man died Saturday morning after being shot in the head.

According to Bibb Coroner Leon Jones, 22-year-old Antwan Rutherford was found with a gunshot wound to the head at a home in the 4900-block of John Kennedy Dr. around 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

He says Rutherford died in the Medical Center, Navicent Health’s Intensive Care Unit around 10:30 a.m.

Sgt. Linda Howard with the Bibb Sheriff’s Office says it is being investigated as a homicide.

She says it was a domestic dispute between an uncle and nephew. Both started shooting and Rutherford was struck in the head.

The name of the suspect has not been released at this time.
