E. Macon man found dead in home, throat cut

The Bibb Sheriff's Office is investigating a Sunday evening homicide on Elder Street in east Macon.

Deputies received the call around 4 p.m.

Thomas Knighton, 63, was found dead at the home with his throat cut.

Lt. Randy Gonzalez with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said a neighbor reportedly hadn't heard from Knighton since Friday and went to check on him.

The neighbor reportedly saw a door to the home wasn't open and found Knighton laying on the floor unresponsive.

Knighton lived alone.

"He was a good person. If he could help you he would. He might tell you if you ask to go somewhere and he'll tell you I aint taking you no doggone where. And then two three minutes later, you've got your ride, he'll tell you where you need to go" said friend Tony Jenkins.

One neighbor said there was nothing negative a person could say about Knighton.

Coroner Leon Jones says this is the fourth homicide of the year in Macon-Bibb County.

Knighton's body is being taken to the GBI crime lab and an autopsy is expected Wednesday.

The incident is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bibb Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
