East Macon Brainstorms City Improvements

Folks in east Macon put their heads together Thursday night and brainstormed ways to improve their side of the city.

The ideas stemmed from their hopes for community growth after the Second Street revitalization in downtown.

They brought up projects like a sports complex, more retail stores, and a wider variety of restaurants. CHA Company and Huntley Partners, the groups designing the revamped Second Street say they plan to consider all of the input.

The project will transform Second Street starting from Little Richard Penniman Boulevard near Mercer and ending at the merge with Gray Highway.

Designers say this will have a large impact on the surrounding areas of the city as well.

Walter Huntley Jr. with Huntley Partners says, "That's what we're going to look at when we do the corridor and we put in the infrastructure, all of the things that can be done to connect the various neighborhoods together so that you will have momentum, and have various catalytic projects, and begin to see job creation."

They estimate that the revitalization plan will create up to 7,000 jobs within the next two decades.

Folks can bring up any concerns about the Second Street project during a five-day forum starting September 21st at the Armory Ballroom.
