Thursday was the first day of work for the new Macon-Bibb County consolidated government.
City workers were busy organizing the building formerly known as Macon City Hall.
The new Macon-Bibb Government Center will house commission workers in their new offices.
Movers brought in furniture from the county courthouse, and painted offices.
Assistant to the Commissioners, Janice Ross, says each office will house 2 commissioners.
Ross says the change will allow the mayor and commission to work as one body.
She says their main focus is to make the transition seamless for the public.
"The citizens will see that we're working hard to take care of them, and take care of the business of Macon and Bibb County. I hope they see an improvement of services on both sides. I hope they see that this consolidation was something that needed to happen," said Ross.
City leaders say they also met Thursday morning to make plans for their next 90 days in office.
