Hart Receives Local Endorsements

Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart received endorsements from several local government and community leaders.

The press conference, held Thursday at Hart's campaign headquarters on Poplar Street, was in response to recent debates, where Hart's supporters say his "statesmanlike conduct" may have been perceived as timidity.

Presiding over the news conference was Clifford Whitby, Chairman of the Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority. He introduced each supporter, who shared their experience working with Hart and why they think he is the best choice for Bibb County Commission Chair.

Notable among those who spoke, was Hart's own son, Sheldon Hart, who spoke candidly of his father's ability to express himselfstronglywhen necessary.

Community and government leaders in attendance included: Macon city councilman Rabbi Larry Schlesinger, business leader and founder of Macon's 100 Black Men Billy Pitts, Leonard Bevill, head of the Macon-Bibb Chamber of Commerce, Bibb Commissioner Reverend Lonzy Edwards, former Macon city council candidate and retired educator Sarah Mincey Hunt, former Macon Chapter NAACP President Al Tillman, Bibb leader and founder of the Macon Middle Georgia Black Pages Alex Habersham, and Bibb schoolbBoard and Macon Transit Authority member Tom Hudson.

Hart spoke briefly, expressing his thanks to his supporters.

Republican Tom Wagoner is challenging Hart, a Democrat, in Tuesday's election for chairman.
