A Macon girl is dead following a drive-by shooting in south Macon just after 6 p.m. Sunday.
Tashuntis Roberts, 14, was inside of her home at 3948 Lindwood Drive. A witnesses who was sitting on a porch at a nearby home reported seeing a car go down the street, turn around, and stop in front of the home. A person got out of the car and fired several shots at the home, the news release states.
It was reported that an earlier incident involving the child's brother could have lead to the shooting, according to the news release.
Glenn Shepard lives across the street from the home. He said he was backing out of his driveway to go to church when he heard what he thought were fireworks. When he returned home, he learned what he had heard were gunshots and that Tashuntis was dead. Over the years, he recalls seeing the child playing in her yard. "It's so sad a child was killed, especially right before Christmas."
Initial reports stated that the girl was shot once in the side, but it was discovered she was shot several times. She was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. at Medical Center, Navicent Health, the news release states.
Roberts was a freshman at Southwest High School where she was a cheerleader. Officials tell 13WMAZ's Claire Davis that extra counselors are on hand at the school to help children deal with the tragedy.
The homicide is the 23rd in Macon this year. There were 16 last year, 17 in 2013, and 23 in 2012.
