Money, books raised to promote literacy

Some parents and their children helped to raise money, and books for a non-profit organization, Saturday.

The Junior League of Macon held their annual Character Breakfast Today.

Organizers say the breakfast will raise money to buy books for children.

Supporters also donated books to the cause and dressed like their favorite character from a book.

Some children say they look forward to the event every year because they love to see their favorite characters.
Larkin Fletcher said her favorites were, "The 3 princesses: Ariel, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty."

"When they see the characters for the first time, you can't capture the excitement on their face enough. It's great," said Katie Garvin.

The Junior League of Macon will hold another big fundraiser in February. That event will be a 5K race.
