Macon's only Medal of Honor recipient remembered at service

Honoring past veterans at Linwood Cemetery

Macon Cemetery Preservation hosted a Veterans Day program at Linwood Cemetery honoring Macon's only Medal of Honor recipient, Rodney Davis.

Davis served in the Vietnam War as a Marine and sacrificed himself to save his platoon.

Former Macon mayor C. Jack Ellis served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and spoke about how this program wasn’t just about honoring those in service, but educating younger generations as well.

“I think it's important to remind generations -- the younger generations as well as those who served -- to let the people know who served that we haven't forgotten them and to let younger generations who haven't served know the importance of service and let them know the sacrifices that these men and women made in order to enjoy the freedom that they have,” said Ellis.

With other veterans buried there, Macon Cemetery Preservation is working to revitalize Linwood Cemetery and is asking the community to come together and help them with their efforts.
