Man charged with burglary, meth possession in Wilcox Co.

A Waycross man is in jail on felony charges after he allegedly tried to break into a Wilcox County home.

A release from the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a prowler call at a home in the 2300-block of Copeland Rd. around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

They arrived at the home to find a person had tried to push in a window around an air conditioner.

Deputies searched the area and found a man – William Rutherford – standing in the woods behind the house.

They ordered him to come forward with his hands up when he pointed ‘a black object’ at deputies and ran away.

The release says the deputies continued to search for Rutherford as Rochelle police units surrounding the perimeter.

After a brief struggle, Rutherford was taken into custody and charged with burglary, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and possession of meth.
