Man killed in Macon wreck brother of NFL player

1 killed, 2 injured in wreck on Interstate 75

The man killed in an accident late Monday on Interstate 75 in Macon is the brother of NFL player Casey Hayward.

Jecaives Hayward, 27, died after being ejected from a vehicle and struck by cars on I-75 south near Sardis Church Road.

The Fort Valley man was a passenger in a 2011 Toyota Camry that struck a tractor trailer in the emergency lane on the highway, according to a Bibb County Sheriff's Office news release.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jecaives Hayward is the brother of Los Angeles Charges cornerback and Perry native Casey Hayward, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

The Perry High standout was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2012.

Casey Hayward Sr. talked to 13WMAZ's Gabrielle Dawkins on Tuesday morning about his son. He said Jecaives graduated with a business degree in May from Georgia Military College.

He described him as a jokester. "He always made you laugh," Hayward Sr. said. "He was a big kid - 6'2", 6'3" - but he was gentle."

Hayward Sr. said his son was also a dog breeder. His breed of choice was the bully breed, his father said.

The last time Hayward Sr. said he saw his son was on Thanksgiving when the two went to New Hope Baptist Church and handed out meals.

"He left a little early," Hayward Sr. said "He said 'I'm gone, pop.' We told each other 'I love you.' That was the last time I saw him."

Two other men who were in the car with Jecaives Hayward - 29-year-old driver Raymond Cox and Oker Smith - remain in stable condition at a Macon hospital.
