UPDATE, 2 PM: The Georgia State Patrol says it expects to file charges against a driver who struck and killed a Wilkinson County man riding on his lawnmower early Sunday.
It happened around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 96 and JR Sims Road.
The state patrol says Christopher Clint Young, age 39 of Irwinton was traveling east on 96 when a second vehicle struck him from behind.
Both the vehicle and Young's lawnmower traveled off the road, overturned and landed in a ditch.
Young was pronounced dead on the scene.
Coroner William Matthews said the other driver was a person who knew Young, but the state patrol would not confirm that. They also declined to comment on why he was riding his lawnmower on the highway, at 4 a.m.
The state patrol says they expect the second driver will be charged, after their accident-reconstruction team completes its investigation.
