Man killed while cutting down trees after storm

A Johnson County man died Saturday in the aftermath of the Friday storms.

According to Johnson County coroner Kenny Jones, 40-year-old Shay Moorman was cutting down trees with his father on the family farm when a tree fell on top of him.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The farm is located off Highway 15 South.

Moorman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner says the tree was a large pine around 10 inches in diameter. He says Moorman died instantly after it struck him in the head.

Moorman was a lawyer in Wrightsville.
