McIntyre mom charged with murder after newborn dies with meth in system

A McIntyre woman is in jail after her newborn baby died in the hospital after testing positive for meth and opiates.

An incident report from Milledgeville Police says a deputy was sent to Oconee Regional Medical Center on July 31 for a call of drugs on a patient.

When the deputy arrived, nursing staff told them Tomalynn Johnson had just given birth and the baby tested positive for meth and opiates.

The baby, identified in the report as "Baby Johnson," was sent to the Medical Center, Navicent Health in critical condition and a nurse told the deputy it was unlikely the infant would fully recover.

The deputy then spoke to Johnson who said she had a small amount of meth and pills in her bag.

Johnson was arrested and charged with cruelty to children and possession of meth.

The newborn later died, and charges were upgraded to felony murder.
