Monroe County deputies chase driver into Macon

After a driver took off from a traffic stop, Monroe County deputies chased the vehicle into Macon, then lost sight of it.

It started Friday morning with a traffic stop on Interstate 75, according to Sgt. Lawson Bittick of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

He said the driver of the 2006 Pontiac Grand Am took off toward Macon.

Bibb County deputies and Georgia State Patrol troopers joined the chase.

They lost sight of the Grand Am before noon near the intersection of Canterbury Drive at Eisenhower Parkway.

Bittick says officers got a tag number for the vehicle and have identified the owner.
