Mosquitoes in Houston County test positive for West Nile Virus

Mosquito pools in Houston County tested positive for West Nile Virus.

This is according to a news release from the North Central Health District. The infected mosquitoes were trapped and tested during regular mosquito monitoring activities.

The health district says there are no reported cases of the virus in people. They're increasing trapping and surveillance of mosquitoes in surrounding areas.

West Nile Virus is most commonly spread by infected mosquitoes feeding on humans. It can be treated with over the counter medicine.
