Putnam County Sheriff Sills says the last three months have felt like three years.
On May 7th, 87-year-old Russell Dermond was found beheaded in the garage of the couple's waterfront home, the Sheriff's Department began a murder investigation and a search effort to find his missing 87-year-old wife, Shirley.
Her body was later found in Lake Oconee sparking a double homicide investigation.
While multiple detectives were working the case initially, it's now down to just Sheriff Sills and one other.
"Has it slowed down? Yes, it has. Calls and leads and things like that have slowed down, but the reward we're offering does not seem to be initiating any calls or things like that, but we're still actively doing things in conjunction with this case," Sills says.
The Sheriff still believes more than one person was involved in the crime. There were never any signs of forced entry, nothing at the crime scene, and nothing in the Dermond's background to suggest any criminal activity.
Recently, the Sheriff brought into a team of five cold case experts from Jacksonville to look over the case for a day, but they didn't find anything new.
The Sheriff says he's off to Atlanta Friday to pick up more of the Dermonds' financial records, and says he's sorting through thousands of pages of records.
