Perry teen shot in stomach during neighborhood dispute

Perry teen shot in the stomach

A Perry teen was hospitalized after being shot in the stomach during an argument Sunday.

Cpt. Heath Dykes with Perry Police says officers responded to a call of a person shot around 6:30 p.m. Sunday near the corner of Betty and Bill Street.

At the scene, they found that a 16-year-old male had been shot in the stomach.

Dykes says they were told two people were walking down the street to a relative’s home when an argument broke out with the ‘large group’ following them.

He says the argument continued into the yard when shots were fired. Derrick McKenzie lives down the street from where the shooting happened.

"It was about eight or nine shots, probably even more than that," McKenzie said.

According to Captain Dykes, the teen who was involved in the argument was then shot in the stomach.

He says he believes the argument began over a fight two women had a week or so before.

"The kid's mother ran to my house and got water and towels to try keep the pressure on him," McKenzie said.

The shooter ran away and Dykes says they’re still interviewing witnesses to identify the suspect.

The condition of the victim is unknown.
