Quotavious Cochran is wanted for shooting at an officer during a traffic stop Monday

Cordele police released the identity of a man they said fired a gun at one of their officers early Monday.

He is Quotavious Cochran, 26. The Macon County resident, who is also called "Tip," shot at Cordele police Officer Brian Lewis during a traffic stop at about 4 a.m. in the 1200 block of South 7th Street, according to a police news release.

After the officer pulled over the suspect's dark colored Nissan Altima, Cochran jumped out of the car and started shooting at the officer, the news release states.

The officer was not injured and did not return fire, the news release states.

"This was purely a premeditated act of violence against one of my officers and we will not rest contently until this young man is held accountable for his action," Cordele police Chief Rob Rodriguez stated in the news release.
