Preparation underway for Independence Day Celebration

Independence Day Concert preparation underway in Warner Robins

Concert setup is in full swing in Warner Robins before Friday's Independence Day Celebration.

Crews have been working throughout the week to get ready.

Fencing, the stage, and Porta-Potties are being put in place for the crowd of thousands expected on Friday night.

Organizer Mandy Stella says security is a big focus.

“Before people are even allowed in to the venue, police will come in and they'll do a final check with dogs and police officers. They'll give us the go when gates are able to actual open. And then of course we'll have a high police presence on site,” Stella explained.

Allen Tatman has been volunteering for the Celebration for roughly 30 years and says looking back, it's hard to pick a favorite.

“Probably the Darius Rucker year, 2015, it was probably one of the largest acts we've ever had, but we still always have great acts,” he said proudly.

Gates open for the concert at 6:00 p.m. and Mary Kate Farmer will take the stage around 7:20 p.m. with country duo Montgomery Gentry following about an hour later.

Then, fireworks light up night sky around 10:00 p.m.

Tatman says one of his favorite parts of the night is actually before the concert when people are waiting to get in.

“Often times I'll ride down the line, 'where are you from?' and they're from all over middle Georgia. There are many families that have other family members from out of state that come in just to make this a part of their July 4th celebration every year,” he said.

And the best news for people wanting to come? The whole event is free.

Here’s a list of places you can park and what’s allowed into the McConnell-Talbert stadium parking lot.
