Putnam firefighter, local bank hosting fundraisers for slain Ga. corrections officers' families

Denise Billue and Carole Billue are Sgt. Curtis Billiue's sisters. They talked to reporters after the men accused of killing their brother appeared in Putnam County Court Wednesday morning.

A memorial walk has been scheduled to raise funds for the families of slain corrections officers Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue.

The 10-mile memorial walk is scheduled for 6:45 a.m. Saturday and will start at Rockville Volunteer Fire Department, 310 Rockville Rd, Eatonton, and will end at Hwy 16 south and Wesley Chapel Road.

The event is being sponsored by a volunteer Putnam County firefighter.

BankSouth has started collecting donations for the officers' families. In Facebook post, the bank says they will match every dollar donated up to $10,000 through July 1.

"These donations will be given directly to the Monica and Billue families. Stop by your local BankSouth branch and donate today!" the Facebook post states.

Monica and Billue were shot to death June 13 after being overpowered by two prison inmates in Putnam County as a busload of inmates were being transferred.
