Update: Search ends for suspects in Monroe County chase, eight arrested

Monroe County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Lawson Bittick talks about a vehicle chase that ended with a crash in Monroe County. They arrested one person and are looking for four others who ran after the wreck Thursday morning.

UPDATE 8:30: Sgt. Lawson Bittick has confirmed that the remaining two suspects have been taken into custody. Two other people were also arrested for helping the two suspects run from the area. Eight people have now been arrested in this case.

Those arrested include:

  • 24-year-old Shamontae Montreese Newson of Macon

  • 21-year-old Calvin Elston of Macon

  • 18-year-old Donnovan Jamal Hicks of Macon

  • 21-year-old Nathan Valentino Smith of Macon

The names and details about the other four arrested have not been released. 

UPDATE: Sgt. Lawson Bittick with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office confirms three men are now in custody. One man was arrested after a wreck on Highway 41 South. That man is from Bibb County. 

Sgt. Bittick says two other men were arrested nearby before 11am on Thursday. Investigators believe that one man was the driver of the F-150 Ford truck. The other man was arrested for helping the suspects leave the scene.

At this time, the other three men who were in the truck are still at large.  

UPDATE: Officials previously said authorities are looking for three men. They're actually looking for four after a vehicle chase that ended with a crash Thursday morning.

The chase started as an attempted traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Lamar County, but it turned into a 15-mile-long chase that ended with a wreck in Monroe County.

Five men fled from the truck and one was arrested. One of the men was wearing a red shirt and another was wearing a black shirt and "some of them didn't even have shoes on," according to Monroe County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Lawson Bittick.

Authorities found three cash registers in the truck. The vehicle was reported stolen from Macon on Tuesday.

Law enforcement in Monroe County is searching for three men who reportedly ran from a stolen car in Forsyth at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Lawson Bittick says it happened after state patrol tried to stop the car on Interstate 75.

They chased the vehicle into Forsyth where it crashed near the old Monroe Academy building on Highway 41.

One man was caught, but officers are searching for three more.

The academy now hosts classes for Central Georgia Technical College and the building went on lockdown during the search.
