MACON, GA.-- - With the possibility of Hurricane Hermine impacting our area, you might want to stock up on a few items in case of an emergency.
It was a busy day for the Walmart on Gray Highway as Maconites filed in to get their last minute hurricane needs.
"It's always a good idea to shop ahead be prepared. You never want to wait until the last minute because that's a big mistake,” says a shopper.
The top item on the list was water. It was a hot commodity flowing off the shelves. Emergency Management says you should get one gallon per person per day. They say you should also get nonperishable foods.
"Water, bread, canned food, and like snacks. Snacks that don't require electricity,” says shopper Kenya Bryant.
"If your power goes out and you have an electric stove, you can't cook. Also, it's a good idea to get that Vienna sausage because all you do is open up the can,” says another shopper.
A weather radio, flashlights, and batteries are always good to have on hand during a hurricane. There are even more important things you will not want to leave behind.
"Make sure you take all of your valuable documents like your birth certificate and your house deed. If you should lose your home, you know at least you've got all your important documents with you,” says a Walmart shopper.
Not everyone is worried about the storm. Some people say they enjoy the time they get to spend with their loved ones.
"I know there are a lot of families that go through a lot problems, you know, and difficult times, but storms like this right here, they can really bring them together,” says shopper James Smith.
