An honor walk was held Saturday morning at the Ocmulgee National Monument to remember Sgt. Curtis Billue -- one of the two correctional officers killed by inmates in June.
The event began with a prayer, the national anthem and speeches remembering Billue’s life.
His sister, Denise Billue, said the walk was a way for the family to keep paying his kindness forward.
“100 percent of all of our donations will go back to the national park,” said Billue. “Curtis was also a giver, so we are also giving away prizes and all of those prizes in some way reflect on Curtis's life and things he liked to do.”
Denise said she’s thankful for those who participated and she plans on making the honor walk an annual event.
