Kids and families in Warner Robins enjoyed a cookout Sunday with a positive message behind it.
Jamal Brunson hosted Stop the Violence -- an event for community members to come out for food, live music, games and raffles.
But beyond the fun, Brunson says this is all to raise awareness of how kids suffer from living in a violent environment.
He says he felt he had to do something to help people understand the impact violence has on the area.
"I'm just trying to show these kids that you can come from this side of town and you can go into any type of situation or environment and be somebody successful,” said Brunson. “That's why I really feel like I wanted to do this. Growing up, I really didn't have that male role model figure, so I'm just trying to give back and help the young kids in my area.”
