There were more new developments Thursday night in the death of a woman whose body was found Thursday.

Macon police say they have two people of interest in the killing.

They also say they've searched along the Ocmulgee River near downtown, but won't say why.

They're also carrying out search warrants, but also won't give any details on that, including the locations.

Police have not identified the body yet, but it was found just feet away from the home of a missing Macon woman.

Police say they're searching for clues in the two cases, but aren't sure yet if they're connected.

Police Chief Mike Burns said Thursday night that investigators have questioned two "persons of interest" in connection with the death of the woman whose body was found outside an apartment near Mercer Law School.

Burns said he hoped to have suspects in custody later Thursday night. Burns said the dead woman was a victim of foul play.

Police found the body Thursday morning as they were looking for a missing Mercer Law School graduate, Lauren Giddings.

They found the body on the side of the apartment building where Giddings lived.

Asked Thursday afternoon if the body is that of Giddings, Burns said: "We're not sure yet."

Burns said he hoped to have an identification Friday afternoon.

Police at the scene ended their work at the scene at 7:30 p.m. in what Burns called a "two-track" investigation of the homicide and the disappearance of Lauren Giddings.

Police say they processed two apartments in the complex, the one of the missing woman, and a vacant apartment downstairs.
