  • The owner of the apartment complex where Lauren Giddings and Stephen McDaniel lived says she's has been hurriedly trying to get all the apartments involved in the investigation cleaned up for new tenants.

SLIDESHOW: Stephen McDaniel August 3rd Hearing

All except Lauren Giddings' former home, apartment number 2 at Barristers Hall.

Boni Bush says she'll live in that apartment for the year, and called cleaning it up an "emotional" process.

13WMAZ's Eleanor Lissitzyn was invited inside the apartment Wednesday evening.

Signs of the investigation were all over the apartment.

There were holes in the walls where Bush says police removed evidence, and fingerprint dust coated doors and walls.

The bathroom has a ceramic tub, and a series of scratches about a foot long were visible on the outer edge.

Our reporter says they were the type of scratches that one would expect to see on a kitchen cutting board.

Police have made no statements to suggest they are relevant to the investigation, but our reporter said the markings seemed out of place in a bathroom.

Police have never said where they think Giddings was murdered, but they did confirm sending drains and pipes to the FBI for analysis.

Bush also discussed Giddings' relationship with McDaniel.

She says she wouldn't describe the two as "friends," and didn't feel Giddings was trying to befriend her next-door neighbor.

She says McDaniel was known to be an unusual guy, and Lauren was a "very nice girl," who was kind to him.

On the deck outside Giddings' apartment were about a dozen two-liter soda bottles that appeared to be filled with water.

Bush says they were from inside McDaniel's apartment, and that he seemed to be stockpiling water.

Bush says when Lauren moved in about three years ago, she asked her tenant if she felt comfortable living next to McDaniel.

She says Giddings replied that he was "nice but weird."
