13WMAZ will make the switch to an all-digital signal on June 12, says President and General Manager Jeff Dudley.

On Feb. 20, the Federal Communications Commission released new information on the DTV Delay Act, which gives people more time to prepare for the transition from analog to digital signal.

The new regulations require at least one major network affiliate in each television market to continue to provide analog service through June 12. Because WMAZ is the only remaining analog broadcast station in the area, the station will continue to broadcast both an analog signal and a digital signal until June 12.

After that date, WMAZ will provide all-digital service.

Dudley says educating viewers about the switch is a priority, and that we will continue to air announcements to guide viewers through the transition.

Cable, satellite, and other paid TV subscribers don't need to do anything to receive digital television service.

And if you receive your television signal through a rooftop antenna or rabbit ears and your television set is a digital television set, you also don't need to do anything. You are all set for the transition.

But, if you receive your television signal through a rooftop antenna or rabbit ears and your television set is an older analog set, you need to act now if you haven't already. You will need to purchase a digital-to-analog converter box.

The converter box connects to your analog television set and will allow you to receive the digital signals for viewing on your analog set.

Or you could buy a digital television set or subscribe to cable or satellite. Converter boxes are available at local retailers that sell television sets.
