Jews in Central Georgia began celebrating the Passover holiday Wednesday night at sundown.
For the Bashuk family, the holiday is all about bringing family and friends together.
Carol Bashuk says the preparation for the meal usually takes a couple of days. She says it is fun having the kids help with cooking and setting the table.
Bashuk says it was her mother who began the family tradition of gathering a big group for the spring time holiday.
But it means more than just time together, it marks an important moment in Jewish history.
Bashuk says it is a celebration of religious freedom and freedom from slavery as the Israelites left Egypt for the promised land.
The Passover meal is part of a religious service called a Seder. It includes readings telling the story of the holiday through a book called the Haggadah.
Along with the service comes the food, some of it with a special meaning, such as the unleavened bread called matzoh.
With everyone gathered around the table, Carol Bashuk says there is nothing better.
She says her family hosted 26 people at their Seder, which shows how much they love to have family and friends together to celebrate the holiday.
Passover continues for the next week.
