Alright Central Georgia! There's way too much fun to be had to sit at home this weekend.
First up, one of the most exciting music festivals of the year. Bearstock is back!
This Saturday, Mercer University welcomes some of the hottest bands around to an all-day music festival. The big news? Super-popular national recording artists Gym Class Heroes kick off their college tour at the festival. Opening for Gym Class Heroes is the up-and-coming band that's straight out of Harvard - Chester French.
A total of 14 bands play throughout the day, including some of Macon's finest. From City Council & the Paper Street Band to Abby Owens to Floco Torres & Al K!ng...the Vettes, Roly Bots, Needmore, Ocean is Theory...the line-up is amazing! And the Key - a band who boasts a couple of Mercer boys - will release their new album during the festivities.
It all starts at noon on Saturday. The festival is open to the public and - it's FREE!
But hold on, we're not through with festival news yet.
Also this weekend, folks from all across the southeast step back in time to one that's been dubbed the Favorite Arts and Crafts Festival in Georgia - it's the Mossy Creek Barnyard Festival. Entertainers, musicians and amazing craftsmen showcase their wares and demonstrate their talents.
It's happening Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. deep in the pine forests of Perry. Visit www.mossycreekfestival.com for directions.
And speaking of craftsmen, 58 of the most amazing ceramists and potters from all across Georgia are fired up for the hottest show around. Macon Arts presents Fired Works!
Friday night, check out over 2,000 pieces of pottery during the preview party. In past years, almost 1/3 of the amazing works were purchased during the preview party - so don't miss out!
Works by many favorite local artists will be up for sale, including pieces from Meg Campbell, Roger Jamison and Brenda Butler - just to name a few.
In addition to buying new pieces, visitors can check out the value of their own pottery. Jim Wilcox will appraise pottery for $5.00 per piece during a pottery road show.
Fired Works continues through April 26. For a complete list of artists, times and the many, many activities, visit www.maconarts.org or call (478) 743-6940. It's all happening at the round building at Central City Park.
Alright, wrapping up the list, we've got a couple of big live music shows to tell you about.
