Georgia Music Hall of Fame officials say the Otis Redding exhibit is the most popular exhibit that's hit their museum. Now, after about a year and a half, the exhibit is set to close on Sunday.
"I want to remember this stuff and tell my parents and other people about the history," said Safiya Waluszko, Macon.
The history of Otis Redding. 10-year old Safiya Waluszko says she was excited when her grandmother offered to take her and her sister to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame on their day off from school.
"It's the music, the history, the culture, its a great feel here," said Stacey Sweet-Belle.
Sweet-Belle says she's been to the Otis Redding exhibit five times, bringing family and friends to check it out. While she never saw Redding perform, she says her mother was a big fan of the Macon-bred singer, and played his records a lot.
"Over and over and over again," said Sweet-Belle.
Now, she's giving her grandchildren the chance to experience Otis Redding. Safiya says she's learning that he founded his own record label and had many fans.
Redding died in 1967 at the young age of 26, in a plane crash. Safiya says she's taking down notes on the exhibit to take back to her parents.
Georgia Music Hall of Fame Director Lisa Love says the exhibit has not only drawn people from Macon, but from all over the country.
"We're lucky that we just had the producer from the Batman series who flew in from New York to see to the exhibit. We've had people call from Miami, L.A. there's just a lot of interest in Otis Redding's music and interest continues to resonate," said Lisa Love, Georgia Music Hall of Fame Exec. Director.
