Tough economic times aren't stopping one local vet from helping people with pets.

Critter Fixer Veterinary Hospital hosted a health fair for your furry friends Saturday, in Bonaire.

People got a chance to talk to pet nutritionists, get free examinations and dental check ups.

Dogs competed for prizes including best dressed, smallest dog and prettiest dog.

Pets also won prizes including pet food and heartworm pills.

Experts gave advice about training techniques and nutrition for their four-legged friends.

"I am a product of Middle Georgia and anytime I can give back to my community I'm always one of the first in line, because I love Middle Georgia. It's been good to me and my family. My clients have taken care of me so I want to make sure I give back to my community," said Vernard Hodges, a veternarian at Critter Fixer.

Adoption agencies helped people who wanted more information about pets. They answered questions about maintenance, costs and pet care.
