The Dooly County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who died in a crop-duster crash Thursday.

Randy Lamberth identified the victim as 73-year-old Oscar "Bucky" Slade of Cobb in Sumter County.

EMA director Kenny Calhoun said it happened around 10 a.m. in a rural area east of Pinehurst, off Calhoun Road.

He said the pilot apparently had finished dusting and was returning to a nearby airstrip.

He said the Dooly County sheriff's office and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.

Kathleen Bergen, communications manager for the FAA's southern region, said the plane, a 1976 Cessna A 188B, was recently sold to A&C Agricultural Aviation of 5660 Calhoun Road in Dooly County.

The company's owner, David Chancy, declined to comment, saying investigators were still on the scene.
