GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says $3 million to complete a study on managing the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, Flint River basin is part of $293 million the Mobile, Ala., district receives in federal stimulus funds.

The corps said Tuesday the study covers "water supply, recreation, hydropower, flood damage reduction, navigation, and fish and wildlife."

Alabama, Georgia and Florida have been embroiled in a long-running dispute over water in the ACF basin.

The $4.6 billion stimulus alloted for corps civil works program includes 172 projects in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. Five involve construction are 167 operations and maintenance. About $8.3 million is for Buford Dam and Lake Lanier, metro Atlanta's main water source along the Chattahoochee.
