When is the big game not for the national championship?

A move is afoot in Congress to define it as it applies to
college football.

Lawmakers are have made it clear they believe the BCS, which is
currently used to decide the national champion, is unfair.

Texas congressman Joe Barton is pushing a bill to change things.
While lawmakers aren't trying to force the BCS to go to an
actual playoff system, legislation they've introduced would prevent any game from being called a national championship unless its the result of a playoff.

The current coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series warned a playoff system could drive the big bowls out of business.

John Swofford also says the major conferences won't be part of
something that drives down their market values.
