The city of Jeffersonville is one step closer to revamping their downtown area as part of their Streetscape Project.

The Downtown Development Authority received a $450,000 Federal Grant from Representative Jim Marshall's office, leaving the city to match their portion of $111,000.

Academy Sports and Outdoors donated $15,000, helping the DDA meet their goal.

Sarah Hawthorne with DDA says the Streetscape Project will not only make downtown look better, but will also help the economy.

"People will want to come here and shop. We hope to have additional shops open up. It will impact because, not only is this the city of Jeffersonville, but it's the county seat for Twiggs County," says Hawthorne.

The DDA have plans on starting two more downtown phases in the near future.
