CHICAGO (AP) -- The attorney general of Illinois says Craigslist is getting rid of its "erotic services" ads and will create a new adult category that will be reviewed by employees of the Web site.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office said Wednesday that existing erotic ads on Craigslist will expire in seven days.

Madigan and the attorneys general of Connecticut and Missouri met with Craigslist officials last week seeking an end to the ads that they contend are advertisements for illegal sexual activities.

Craigslist came under pressure to remove the ads after a medical student in Boston was charged with the April killing of a masseuse he met on the site.

Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster did not immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
