While members from the State Senate spent time at Macon State, Governor Sonny Perdue made his way to Mercer University to deliver the commencement speech.

480 students listened to the Governor talk about going out into the world, learning new things and always remaining patient.

The school honored graduates from seven different areas including liberal arts, business and economics, and education.

While this was a day to celebrate students' independence, administrators say it's hard to let students go.

Peter Brown, Senior Vice-Provost, said, "You see them develop you see them come into their own and it's biter sweet. It's a little bit like raising children. You want them to be out on their own and be launched. Of course you miss them, but they will be back, some of them as faculty members, some of them as trustees, and some of them as important contributors to the future of Mercer."

The Mercer Bears may be coming back in couple of months for home coming where they will be playing Florida State.
